Blakers-massey Elements and Exotic Diffeomorphisms of S and S via Geodesics

چکیده
We use the geometry of the geodesics of a certain left-invariant metric on the Lie group Sp(2) to find explicit related formulas for two topological objects: the Blakers-Massey element (a generator of π6(S)) and an exotic (i.e. not isotopic to the identity) diffeomorphism of S6 (C. E. Durán, 2001). These formulas depend on two quaternions and their conjugates and we produce their extensions to the octonions through formulas for a generator of π14(S) and exotic diffeomorphisms of S14, thus giving explicit gluing maps for half of the 15-dimensional exotic spheres expressed as the union of two 15-disks.

ADJUNCTION OF n-EQUIVALENCES AND TRIAD CONNECTIVITY
We prove a new adjunction theorem for n-equivalences. This theorem enables us to produce a simple geometric version of proof of the triad connectivity theorem of Blakers and Massey. An important intermediate step is a study of the collapsing map S∨X → S,

An exposition of some proofs of the Freudenthal suspension theorem and the BlakersMassey theorem. These are meant to be reverse engineered versions of proofs in homotopy type theory due to Lumsdaine, Finster, and Licata. The proof of Blakers-Massey given here is based on a formalization given by Favonia.

Working in the context of symmetric spectra, we prove higher homotopy excision and higher Blakers–Massey theorems, and their duals, for algebras and left modules over operads in the category of modules over a commutative ring spectrum (e.g., structured ring spectra).

Working in the context of symmetric spectra, we prove higher homotopy excision and higher Blakers–Massey theorems, and their duals, for algebras and left modules over operads in the category of modules over a commutative ring spectrum (e.g., structured ring spectra). We also prove analogous results for algebras and left modules over operads in unbounded chain complexes.

We provide rigorous evidence of the fact that the modified Constantin-Lax-Majda equation modeling vortex and quasi-geostrophic dynamics [22] describes the geodesic flow on the subgroup Diff∞1 (S) of orientation-preserving diffeomorphisms φ ∈ Diff∞(S) such that φ(1) = 1 with respect to right-invariant metric induced by the homogeneous Sobolev space Ḣ(S) and show the local existence of the geodes...
